Mt. Hor’s 2648 foot summit elevation offers views of several ponds in the valley as well as a view of the Green Mountains in the distance. With two overlook choices you’ll have memorable views of Lake Willoghby, the White Mountains, Owl’s Head, and Mount Orford.

Bald Mountain Trails

The third highest peak in the Northeast Kingdom, Bald Mountain, provides one of the best views in the area from is newly restored fire tower. Three trails access the summit. The Telegraph trail, the Mad Brook Trail, and the Long Pond trail are maintained by the Westmore Association, the Northeast Kingdom Conservation Service Corps and volunteers with the Green Mountain Club.

The State of Vermont has recently acquisitioned the summit properties of Bald Mountain, including the Fire Lookout’s Cabin, Tower and much of the upper Mad Brook Trail within the Willoughby State Forest which has allowed the restoration work in recent years including the full renovation of the historic summit fire tower.

Kingdom Adventures Mountain Guides in East Burke, Vermont is proud to serve as the sponsor and instructional provider of SOLO wilderness medicine courses in Northern Vermont.

The two-day Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course is SOLO's most popular creating a solid foundation in the basics of backcountry medical care. Initially offered in 1975, this course was the first of its kind in the United States, and it is the curriculum upon which all other backcountry medicine courses are based. SOLO CPR certification is included as a part of all WFA courses.

This is a great course for mountain bikers, hikers, climbers, backpackers, backcountry skiers and other outdoor enthusiasts who venture out for day and weekend trips in Vermont. The WFA may be used to recertify your SOLO WFR.

Lyndon Institute Dance Company Presents Spring Recital

Enjoy the Lyndon Institute Dance Department's year end culminating event. Students have applied themselves all year in Dance Techniques and Elements, Ballet, and Jazz dance classes, the auditioned-based Dance Company, Independent Study, Dance Aide, dance club, pointe club, hip hop club, and tap dance club. The performance will showcase their learning in studies of dance technique and artistry (ballet, modern and jazz) and will demonstrate students’ skills and knowledge of these studies through the use of the elements of dance (time, space and energy) to highlight compassion expressed through movement.

You are invited Friday, May 17th at 7:00 p.m. in the Auditorium at Lyndon Institute in Lyndonville, Vermont to share in and support the talents of the Lyndon Institute Dance Department during their Spring Dance Recital.

“Every year, dancers in the LI Dance Department study various styles and techniques of dance and work diligently to demonstrate the application of dance across various disciplines. The students also focus on life-long wellness and explore dance in relation to personal growth, self-evaluation, and goal setting,” said McGregor.

Shrek brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage and proves there's more to the story than meets the ears.

"Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek...." And thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there's one on hand... and his name is Shrek.

The 31st Annual Pond Skim. This year's theme is... "Surf's Up ". Break out your best Hawaiian Shirts, Grass Skirts and Lei's, Beach Towels, Board Shorts, Bikinis, Wet suits, Floaties, Zink Oxide Sunscreen, and Shark Repellent... Hang'n Ten might be hard, but only the Brave will Charge the pond..... However, Barney's ( inexperienced surfers) are always welcome to attempt the Drop In.

1st place man/woman receive a 2019/20 Winter Season Pass to Burke Mountain. Prizes are also awarded to best costume, best exit and best splash!

**Registration closes at 11am or at 50 participants, whichever happens first. Reminder, competitors must be 18 or older.

This year’s menu is 'Thanksgiving in March’ (with a potluck twist) featuring turkey, stuffing, potatoes, veggies and more. Dinner guests are also invited to share favorite recipes and bring along a potluck side dish, casserole or dessert.

New this year, all dinner guests will be entered to win great raffle prizes including gift certificates to local restaurants and shops. There is no cost to enter the raffle, but you must be present to win. Winners will be chosen during the dinner.

Burke Mountain Base Lodge Sledding

With all this snow falling here in Burke Vermont, kids of all ages should grab their sleds and head for Burke Mountain, VT on January 18th and 19th.

Burke Mountain Base Lodge is inviting everyone to enjoy some of the beautiful winter weather and fresh snow for some sledding!
Sledding will take place after the lifts close down at 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM on January 18th and 19th.

A $5 sled rental and a $5 helmet rental are required , sign up at the Snow Sports Desk.
